It's been a long few weeks between wrapping up for the winter and stocking up on food, being ill and working behind the scenes, but now I'm finally able to sit down and write.
I'm sure most of you were expecting to see our round up of Insomnia 44 by now, it was planned to go up this time last week, but looking at the calendar I realised something, this week marks the '2 months in' date of Crash To Desktop going live, and seeing as this is the last month of the year, I thought I'd write something special instead...
What I will be doing is a 'story so far' from my perspective and a look forward to what we have planned for the future - Read on for the full story

Quite soon after that CTD became more or less 'real', it started out as just something we both could just 'blog' about gaming stuff and but with adding both our close friends from G3 Radio (Raksha and Silverfuge), and them bringing content from their RPG and Tabletop show into the site (along with their co-host Farseer) it became quite clear it was going to be something more.
Most of you may not know that this isn't the first time I've tried to break into the gaming industry, I've been a game dev on fan based projects through to writing in an E-Zine, but it wasn't until I got to Epic.LAN I actually felt like I was 'in'. Sure it was hard and at times a tad boring, 3 and a half hours video editing is NEVER fun, but at the end of it we made new friends and Fatal got his second ever interview under his belt - this one on cam too.
After Epic.LAN on our event calendar came Replay, this came off the back of Fatal's very first interview with Andy Brown (Director of Replay), netting us not just tickets for ourselves but leading on to our first competition, which two lucky winners walked away with a full weekend of tickets. Replay was especially noteworthy for me as I met my 'gaming heroes' Team 17, I HUGGED the lead designer of the team and spent a good 45 minutes talking with him about the industry, and the Team 17 in general. This was the first face time I'd had with someone of that caliber, who was influential in the industry, and I'm glad it was Team 17 since they were so friendly.
Our last event of this year was Insomnia 44, this was a long time planned, so long in fact we had press passes planned for this when we were still with G3 Radio, so we headed along with a few members of their team. Fatal was on fire PR wise at the event not only did he grab the site Tojo, our latest writer, who with Fatal covered one of the biggest Star Craft 2 events this year, but he also bagged interviews with Riot Game's League of Legends Community Manager (whom gave us lots of swag to give away - details on the competition will be out over the holidays, thanks guys), and after a whole weekend stalking him the much fabled Total Biscuit. Both interviews will be on the site by this weekend.
Myself, Fatal and some of the guys from G3 Radio with Total Biscuit - 1am and all of us were tired, yet we carried on. |
Speaking of up coming interviews, CTD is looking forward towards the New Year, with the aforementioned League of Legends swag to give away, our very first hardware review from Roxio with their game capture card, our Steam community page coming to life, and hopefully more community interaction.
It's surprising how much CTD has grown and how much impact going independent, has had on mine and Fatal's lives, we've gone from two guys writing a blog to (with the help of Raksha, Silverfuge, Farseer, Glitch, and Tojo) something far more than that - creating a new life. More is to come over the New Year, so here's a toast from all of us at CTD making 2012 something to watch.
