Skyrim is arguably this year's biggest PC game release. Despite its release on console platforms we all know its roots are as a classic PC series. Sadly Bethesda have yet again released a game that seems to be teeming with bugs.
Although I do recognise that there are teething troubles with most games that come out on PC.This is usually down to time constraints that Publishers and Investors pressure gaming companies with, so they can't complete the games construction properly. Alternatively it can be down to inadequate testing on a wide variety of hardware.
What makes these bugs infuriating in this instance is that they can prevent you from completing quests. For instance I had to download an external program in the game's main quest line as one of the characters dialogue wasn't appearing and therefore I couldn't continue the adventure. Other humorous bugs I encountered were things like: duplicate characters interacting with each other, textures appearing completely purple, repeated items of dialogue and others.
PC Gamers know that Bethesda games are usually full of bugs on their release and sometimes it even hinders them from buying the game until it is reported to be at a state where there are no major bugs or patches. This is only a good thing is it lets the developer know that the gaming community, doesn't tolerate bugs being released with high profile games like Skyrim. Surely Bethesda can take the time to sort out some minor coding issues before releasing a game?
This also poses a bigger question. Does adequate testing go into PC gaming these days, or is the popularity of consoles taking away the attention to detail that PC Gamers deserve? Too much pressure is being put on developers shoulders to get a game out on a pre-determined release date. It's for these reasons that I prefer estimated release dates, as they can change and it's much better to release a working game, than one that is riddled with bugs with day one patches.
