Join the community and win Trials HD DLC

Tonight we are pleased to announce the first in our competitions while at Epic.EIGHT, all you have to do is join the community.

There are 5 pairs of Trials HD Big Pack and Big Thrills DLC to give away, kindly donated to us by the guys at RedLynx, there are two ways to win:

#1 via Twitter, all you have to do follow our twitter feed and retweet the competition tweet when it appears.

#2 like our Facebook wall and comment on the competition post when it hits the wall.

There will be 3 pairs given out via twitter and 2 pairs given out via Facebook, entries close at 9am GMT tomorrow (18th Feb) good luck.

Good Mornin' Epic.Lan

Well myself and Fatal have made it through the opening night of Epic.EIGHT, despite the beer and chaos.

The opening ceremony was a blast ending with a Rock Band 2 score attack tournament on Tenacious D's Tribute, Epic Radio was first to bat but then got served by the other two teams, one of which Fatal ended up subbing as the drummer. Fatal's team (pictured above) of course won and free beer was had by all, huzzah!

Keep up with the event via this site, and twitter by either directly from us or Epic.LAN

Epic.EIGHT days away

Epic.LAN's Epic.EIGHT is just days away, we can't wait, however Fatal has been quite evil in teasing you all on our Facebook and Twitter, about something special we have planned for the event.

I have the pleasure to reveal we have SWAG to give away at the event, thanks to the kindness of RedLynx and Trendy Entertainment, we have keys for both Trials HD DLC packs for Xbox 360 and Dungeon Defenders Steam keys, plus a few other items we have already packed away ready for the event.

Details on the competitions will be unveiled during Epic.EIGHT, so follow us on Facebook and Twitter for your best chance to win.

CTD returns to Epic.LAN

It's event time yet again myself (Krem) and Fatal, are heading to Epic.LAN's Epic.EIGHT, our previous coverage of Epic.SEVEN is floating around the site somewhere, and from the 16th through to the 19th of February we will be at the Uttoxetor Racecourse covering the event.

Epic.EIGHT looks to be Epic.LAN's biggest event yet, the attendance numbers are closing in on the 300 mark, and the prize pool of both Counter-Strike: Source and Call of Duty 4 Tournaments have been bumped up to £2500.

Between the casual and competitive fun, and of course the all important bar usage, we'll be bringing you news from the event, and pictures however no video interviews this time sadly, I don't think I could take another round of video editing.

For more information and possible last minute bookings head over to Epic.Lan's website

Steam App for iOS and Android

Valve have announced that their digital distribution service will be coming to smart phone services, namely the iPhone and Android devices. The app allows you to interact with your friends in the Steam community with a built in chat function. It will also allow you to make purchases from Steam's online store. This means that you will be able to interact with friends and purchase games over steam no matter where you are.

This could be potentially hazardous for wallets as there is now little reason to miss out on steam's notorious game sales. Furthermore it makes the steam platform a lot less secure if you're now able to interact with it much easier on a portable device. Who knows what could result if someone steals your phone or you make the mistake of losing it?

The app is now available in selected beta and you can download it from the App store or the Android Market, but you may have to wait to use it.

Terraria - Collectors Edition

Publisher/Distributor outlet Merge Games have announced that they will be releasing a Boxed edition of the smash indie-hit Terraria. However the game is an extremely small file and can easily be downloaded over steam in just a few minutes. Therefore the physical edition of the game will be a collectors edition.

The edition pictured above will include a poster, key-chain, trading cards and an in-game item which has not been announced yet. The edition goes on sale March 16th.

Business as usual

After a much deserved Christmas holiday, we are back to pulverise your sense's with the wrecking ball of today's gaming. There are many things in the pipeline at Crash To Desktop, so watch this space!

As it stands it's back to business as usual, which for us includes serving you all the news, reviews and previews you can digest, as well as the very best UK event coverage. You may have noticed a donate button has materialised on right hand side. In order to continue providing you with the very best content,  we need to fund the site hosting costs, competition prizes, event travel arrangements, etc. So if you like this website feel free to buy us a beer, it will help us in many ways, and will allow us to become even better!

We don't want to travel the ad supprted route yet, as we believe that it will provide a better experience for our readers in the meantime, to stay ad free. This however doesn't mean we won't shift to being ad supported in the future, if we believe it won't impact the reading experience detrimentally. We believe that the revenue stream from the advertisements at this stage, won't be very beneficial, and will impede our community's expansion.

We appreciate any comments, emails or suggestions, and hope we can make 2012 even better for CTD and you our valued reader.

News Minion Incoming

D.R. Ninja (also known as NintendoNinja or Dom if you're old fashioned)

Dom is our shiny new news writer who will probably be posting on the site at more regular intervals. He spends the majority of his time playing PC games and spending a ridiculous amount of money on steam (Dammit Valve!). He also enjoys writing, drumming, listening to music and gazing at Reddit or Tumblr. He is also currently studying magazine journalism at Sunderland University, training to become a games journalist.

Dom has had lots of experience with writing gaming blogs and hopes to add some of his experience to make the site a better place to be. More specifically he runs his own gaming blog Load Screen , a drumming blog Drummer's Den and is also in development of starting another site specifically aimed at PC Gamers. Dom has also had experience with Podcasting and audio production and has appeared on Podcasts such as Control Point and The Daily Gamer by popular podcasters The Dead Workers who are famously known for their Minecraft podcast The Shaft.

If you want to get to know our new recruit, he can be contacted through the following means:

Crash To Desktop - 2 Months In

It's been a long few weeks between wrapping up for the winter and stocking up on food, being ill and working behind the scenes, but now I'm finally able to sit down and write.

I'm sure most of you were expecting to see our round up of Insomnia 44 by now, it was planned to go up this time last week, but looking at the calendar I realised something, this week marks the '2 months in' date of Crash To Desktop going live, and seeing as this is the last month of the year, I thought I'd write something special instead...

What I will be doing is a 'story so far' from my perspective and a look forward to what we have planned for the future - Read on for the full story

CTD needs you

As you know news has been a bit lacking on Crash To Desktop as of late, problem is it's only me writing it most of the time, and sometimes life can be a tad busy...

Here is a good time to help us back - we are looking for basically 'News Minions' to rummage around the internet to find us 'quite interesting' news and report it back on CTD, if you do it frees up my time to do other things straight away - magical wonderful things.

If you are interested in filling the post drop something in the comments below and we will chat..

Must remember to make 'Jobs' page - *goes to put on the 'to do' list*

...oh and we have swag, and some of it may be for you.

No Sleep Coming with i44

Tomorrow myself and Fatal will be joining members of G3-Radio at Insomnia 44, as the poster states we may invade both G3's live shows Saturday 7-10pm GMT and Sunday 12-3pm GMT, and unconfirmed as of yet but Teldur (aka Dave) of Blastprocess.com may be popping down Sunday for his show 7-9pm GMT.

We'll be there all weekend, hopefully to snap up some pictures, videos and if we are lucky get some interviews.

Still recovering from epic.SEVEN

Still recovering from last weekend's epic.LAN event, to put it simply, it was great to see gamers just out in force, beer was had by all, drunken card games a plenty, and of course many games of LAN were played.

First off congratulations to the various tournament winners both in COD and CSS, you can find them around the site however by clicking on the label 'Epic.Lan' over on your right *points flight attendantly* will easily list all the content there - Finally after slaving over a hot audio and video editor we can finally release Fatal's interview with CSS 1v1 finalists Chronic and Avash:

Read on for the other tournaments, the pub quiz, boat races, more images and videos, and werewolves...
