After the Skyrim Creation Kit and Steam Workshop were released for The Elder Scrolls V:Skyrim last week the modding scene has exploded.Bethesda, creators of Skyrim and the Elder Scrolls series say that there were two million downloads of mods within 3 days of the Creation Kit's release.
With such a seamless way to download mods now integrated into the Steam platform, modders and PC gamers alike have been downloading and creating mods for Skyrim like hot cakes. The mods have breathed new life into the game and provided lots of new experiences for players to enjoy.
With the Steam Workshop downloading mods has become so easy. Compared to having to download them and install them manually, which required a bit of know-how. The interweaved platform of digital distribution and modding now makes mods even more accessible and publicised. This is good news for any game designer or modder wanting to make a name for him/herself and finding a job in games industry.
If Steam integrates this into more games more people are going to get interested in modding and we may see modders getting noticed by developers themselves making games more reliant on their communities. Hopefully this will mean that we see more modding for a variety of PC games.
