If you recall yesterday's story about game designer Tim Schafer, being unable to find funding for the development of Pyschonauts 2, Double Fine (the company Schafer founded) has started a Kickstarter fund to fund a brand new adventure title. Essentially the fund allows anybody across the globe with a debit or credit card, to pledge some money to fund the game's development.
Initially the company set a target of $400,000 in just over a month. Thanks to the viral nature of this story the company raised $450,000 within 8 hours. An outstanding figure that just goes to show, how powerful viral marketing and Twitter can be.
To add further incentive to gamers to back the project, Double Fine are offering bonuses to those that choose to donate more. The list of rewards go from as simple to a copy of the game on release, and early access to the game's beta, to becoming an actual character in the game, and getting to hang out with the developers of the game. See the list of normal rewards here and the list of the premium awards here.
