DmC no longer a direct prequel apparently

Reported by Siliconera, to add further confusion to the Devil May Cry reboot DmC, it is no longer a direct prequel of the original series despite Devil May Cry 3 taking that role and overwriting the current timeline, but now set in a parallel universe set in the past.

This still means Dante, the one currently staring in Marvel vs Capcom 3, that fans know and love still exists, along with his timeline (meaning Nero still is as well.... sigh). Despite all this Capcom is not keeping the original series to one side just in case this new version doesn't do as well as hoped - it was actually developers of the game, Ninja Theory's idea.

Well they keep on spinning it don't they, Capcom insisting this is 'your new Devil May Cry and your going to have to live with it' at the beginning of the year to Ninja Theory now telling us it's not.

I have to say that despite what NT actually say they've changed the game too much and realised that the 'direct prequel' wont fly with the fans and using this as a get out card to the butchering of the original lore - For one HIS MOTHER IS NOT AN ANGEL!
I do honestly think they did this to keep Capcom happy as this now 'spin off' series wont do as well as they hoped and they know it - NT despite pulling off great stories and combat systems with great voice actors still haven't mastered game play properly and DmC will just be another 'room filled with monsters' title.

I'll still buy it - but I don't think the fan base will flock to it.

"Room full of monsters" title is a tad unfair, I think. In my opinion Ninja Theory have been very good at developing fantastic beat 'em up's, and I think their gameplay design is very compatible with Devil May Cry. The problem however arises from their restructuring of the lore which will cause half of the rabid fanbase to have an aneurysm.

It does annoy me that company cannot leave well enough alone, and have to reboot a series ever 5 seconds, because they think their product isn't hip enough for the current market. Devil May Cry as a IP has never had this issue, in fact it's always been the opposite as DmC isn't nearly as stylish as it's predecessors.

As a game I'm sure DmC will be very good, as an alternate take on an established series I feel it won't be upto par and will disappoint in many ways.
